About

Captain Jay Michaud

Jay is a member of the Society of Accredited Marine Surveyors (SAMS) and has earned Accredited Marine Surveyor (AMS) standing. He is a member of the American Boat and Yacht Council (ABYC), and holds a United States Coast Guard (USCG)100 Ton Master Mariner License.

Jay is a graduate of the renowned Chapman School of Seamanship, Marine Surveyor Program and the Chapman Damage and Claims Survey Course. He studied under the direction of the late Charles V. Corder Jr., the former director of the Chapman Survey Program and a past president of SAMS.

Jay has over fifty years of ocean experience, including a round-the-world cruise with his parents.

He has a natural understanding of the forces which act on a vessel’s hull and structure. He knows how to find hidden flaws which sometimes go unnoticed, but may cause serious problems if not discovered in time. In addition to power and sail yachts, Jay is equally qualified to survey commercial fishing vessels.

Assisting Jay, is Susan S. Michaud.

Susan can sometimes be found in the field, assisting Jay, however most of the time she handles the office and scheduling. She has many years of boating experience and holds a USCG 100 Ton Master Mariner License. Susan is also graduate of the Chapman School’s Survey Programs.

Jay and Susan own the “International Harvester”, a working Provincial 42′ commercial lobster boat and the “Lucky Star”, a 20′ Ocean Scout sport-utility boat.
